BIOGRAPHY:

Ann graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in geology and her doctorate work was done at the University of Colorado, in Boulder. She served as a geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and taught geology at the University of Kentucky.

Myron graduated from Northern Arizona University and served as a park ranger at Montezuma Well, Carlsbad Caverns and Walnut Canyon in the Southwest, Yosemite National Park and California National Monuments in the Northeast. He then became a naturalist at National Capital Parks in Washington, D.C., where he was part of a team designing exhibits for 26 visitor centers in the national parks.

Myron worked with the Division of International Affairs where he assisted 80 governments in the development of national park systems worldwide. He also taught at the University of Wyoming, Oregon State University and at other universities worldwide.

Ann and Myron met at the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, where they were both ranger-naturalists.

The two collaborated in the publication of over 70 magazine articles, technical papers, encyclopedic treatises and booklets. They have also authored several books, which have received national awards and been translated into various foreign languages. Among these works are Crater Lake, The American West: A Natural History, The Secret Places: Wonders of Scenic Grand Canyon, Wildlife of the Forests, The Audubon Society Book of Trees, Wild Places: A Photographic Celebration of Unspoiled America, The Wild Shores of North America, Wildlife of the Forests, The Audubon Society Book, The Life of the Desert, The Appalachian Trail, The Pacific Crest Trail, Yellowstone, New Worlds for Wildlife, Wilderness Areas of North America and Shorty and the Radio Men.

Ann published several books as Ann Livesay, Death in the Amazon, The Isis Command, The Chala Project and The Madman of Mount Everest. Many of their books are available through IHSF Publications. Their love of photography and travel took them on many adventures, to numerous countries, and their books are illustrated with these photographs.

Myron has since passed away and Ann continues to live in Medford Oregon, where she still enjoys her passion for photography.

Most of the Sutton photographic collection has been scanned and is available online.
