SCOPE & CONTENT:

Father Ostertag's wife had a long family history in Hillsboro and Kingston, NM. The diaries of Anne Bucher, 1905-1911, 1916-1969, Gertrude W. Zollars, 1902-1949 and the Anne E. West diaries, 1902-1916, all reside at IHSF. These diaries are available on microfiche from IHSF.

The Anne Bucher Scrapbooks, 1890-1967, are also housed at IHSF. A Finding Aid to the photographs is available. Please see description below.

Comments: Anne Bucher was born Sep 23, 1892 in Kingston , NM . She spent much of her childhood in Hillsboro and the surrounding areas, leaving briefly for California to attend a finishing school for girls. She spent much of her time circumnavigating the world with her Aunt Gertrude Zollars through Asia and Europe. After her father died in 1935 she took over the First National Bank Building in El Paso, TX in the 1970's.

Photos in her scrapbooks include scenery of Southern New Mexico , mining and ranch life around Hillsboro , relatives in Ohio , North Carolina , Albuquerque , Huntington Hall School in California , travels to Europe and Asia and the family house in El Paso .

BIOGRAPHY:

Father Ostertag, now retired, is an Episcopal priest who served many New Mexico communities, including Raton, Taos, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Truth or Consequences & Hillsboro. IHSF holds a portion of Father Ostertag's papers regarding his service as an Episcopal priest. These papers are cataloged with the papers representing priests of the Diocese of the Rio Grande .
