SCOPE & CONTENT:

Family papers, genealogical records, diaries (1905, 1910), newspaper clippings, correspondence, short story manuscripts, and photographs. The genealogical records include Lewis, Meriwether, and Scott families. Papers from Sarah's daughter, Mrs. J.B. (Molly) Lowther from Marfa, TX, are also included. The collection reflects from the Civil War to the 1960's.

Many of the Sarah S. McKellar and Lewis Scott (pseud.) manuscripts are in the collection. Sarah was most noted for discovering that the lost Mission of San Juan Bautista in Presidio del Rio Grande, Mexico was in the location of what is now Guerrero, Mexico. A scrapbook and many articles regarding this discovery are in the collection. Letters regarding Mrs. McKellar's stories include one by Eleanor Roosevelt and Paul Horgan.

Mrs. D.S. McKellar (Sarah Scott) was a writer and historian from San Antonio, Tx. She also wrote under the pseudonym Lewis Scott.
