DONOR: Richard (Red) Hall SIZE: 10 cubic feet SCOPE & CONTENT: Photographic collection: BIOGRAPHY: Red Hall cut his teeth at Mack's Camera Shop in Roswell, NM, at the height of the Walker Air Force Base operations, in the 1950/60s. Airmen, returning from world travels, brought Mack priceless equipment and negatives which Red processed and from which he developed a wide range of photographic experience. In the late '60s, Phil Dillard, Director of Audio-Visual Services at New Mexico State University (NMSU), enticed Red to move over to assist Dillard at the NMSU Audio Visual Center, where Red exercised his skills by recording images of numerous shows and acts that frequented the new Pan American Sports Arena. Red was also an accomplished drummer, played in a Dixieland Band with George Goedecke at the old Cork and Bottle and devoted hours of volunteer time with the local Sertoma Club at the State Fair Ground Race Track. Red Hall's photos cover architecture, personalities and activities of NMSU during the turbulent hippy decades as well as his personal photographic interests. |
