BIOGRAPHY:

Sara Collins Emerick was born on July 12, 1917 in Crittenden, Kentucky. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity University in Texas, as well as a Masters of Arts in Spanish-English at New Mexico State University. She married Lewis Emerick in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1992. They had three children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sara and Lewis owned and operated Emerick Home Builders, Inc., in Las Cruces for many years. In addition to her work in the building industry, Sara homeschooled her grandchildren, She also led a woman’s Bible study group and taught Sunday School for several decades. Sara wrote several books, two of which were used in her work as a missionary.

Sara participated in many different organizations, including the Board of Christian Day Nursery, the University Presbyterian Church, the City Beautification Committee, and multiple Chamber of Commerce committees. She was also a delegate for People to People in Sweden, Russia, Germany, and Belgium, and served as chaplain of the Dona Ana Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2003. Sara Collins Emerick passed away in Las Cruces, NM, on February 10, 2015.
