SCOPE & CONTENT:

The papers and photographs of the Rev. Dr. John Ellison, an Episcopal priest.

BIOGRAPHY:

Dr. Ellison was born in 1920, received his ordination in 1945, retired in 1985 and died in 1994. He served in several parishes throughout the United States, including St. Clements Church in El Paso, Texas.

While working on his doctorate at Harvard University, the Rev. Dr. Ellison compiled Neslon's Complete Concordance of the Revised Standard Version Bible, 1957, using Remington Rand's Univac.

The Rev. Dr. Ellison was particularly noted as the first person to use a computer for a humanities project.
